Jun 8, 2010

(St. Paul, Minn.)--June 8, 2010--Minnesota Public Radio announced Tuesday that Toni Randolph has been named MPR News' Editor for New Audiences, a newly created position in the newsroom aimed at connecting with ethnically diverse Minnesotans.

Randolph, who has been with MPR News since 2003, will work with the entire on-air and online news staff to ensure that MPR News is listening and responding to the news needs of the state's increasingly diverse population.

"The face of Minnesota is changing rapidly, and it's critical we devote talent, time and attention to figure out how best to provide a relevant and important news service to new audiences," said Chris Worthington, MPR's managing director of news.

Randolph is an award-winning journalist who has reported on a variety of topics, including homelessness and immigration issues. She also has served as a newscaster and host at MPR. Before moving to Minnesota, Randolph worked at WBUR-FM in Boston for more than seven years, covering Massachusetts politics, airport security and the clergy sex abuse scandal.

"Toni has a way with people and an instinct for audiences," said Worthington. "Mix those qualities with her journalistic sense and she's a natural fit for this important new role at MPR."
