Minnesota Public Radio Presents The Women's City Cabaret Wednesday, August 18 at The Fitzgerald Theater

Jearlyn Steele, Connie Evingson, Debbie Duncan,former WWII WASP pilot Elizabeth Strohfus and more celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment

WHAT: The story of a woman's right to vote is the story of a woman fighting to be heard. Join Minnesota Public Radio as we celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the 19th amendment with the Women's City Cabaret.

Host Jearlyn Steele of the famed Steele family will lead us through an evening of outspoken music and smart stories that our suffragist ancestors would be proud to hear. She will be joined by musical friends folk artist Andra Suchy, jazz/pop singers Connie Evingson and Debbie Duncan, Lori Dokken on piano, Nona Marie Invie of Dark Dark Dark and The Twin Cities Women's Choir.

MPR News reporter Suzanne Pekow will present a field report on an issue related to women's history and expect an audio postcard from Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar and State Representative Mary Kiffmeyer. Also joining the cast: World War II Women Airforce Service Pilot member (WASP) Elizabeth Strohfus, Saint Paul Poet Laureate Carol Connolly, poets Heid Erdrich and Desdemona and Keesha Gaskins of the Minnesota Chapter of the League of Women Voters. Members of local Girl Scout troupes will meet-and-greet the audience. There will also be special honors given to the League of Women Voters as a toast to their 90 years as an American institution.
