Minnesota Public Radio's Broadcast Journalist Series Welcomes Roxana Saberi to St. Paul on Thursday, Sept. 23

Sep 16, 2010

WHAT: Minnesota Public Radio welcomes Roxana Saberi to the O'Shaughnessy Educational Center at the University of St. Thomas on Thursday, Sept. 23. Saberi was arrested and imprisoned while working as a freelance journalist in Tehran in January 2009. MPR News' Stephen John will host the discussion.

Saberi will discuss her new book, "Between Two Worlds: My Life and Captivity in Iran." In it, she opens up about the false charges of espionage levied against her by the Iranian court system, her five-month incarceration in one of Tehran's most notorious prisons, her brief hunger strike and the successful efforts of friends, colleagues, and supporters worldwide towards having her released.

An American-born daughter of an Iranian immigrant, Saberi moved to Tehran in 2003 to work as Feature Story News' Iran correspondent. There, she contributed to NPR, BBC, ABC Radio, Fox News, and numerous globally-based news organizations. She was working on a book about Iranian culture when she was forced from her home and secretly imprisoned in January of 2009.

Roxana Saberi holds a bachelors' degree in Communications from Concordia College, a masters' degree in Broadcast Journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, and a second masters' degree in International Relations from the University of Cambridge.
