What: 89.3 The Current, from Minnesota Public Radio, will present Rock the Cradle on Sunday, February 20 -- a free day of family fun, held at two of the state's premier arts and culture institutions. Now in its sixth year, the event has grown to nearly 10,000 people attending last year.
Throughout the day, families and social groups from all over the Twin Cities come together to enjoy music, art, books and their community in a meaningful, entertaining and engaging setting.
Attendees will find many fun activities, including the popular Musical Instrument Petting Zoo presented by MacPhail School of Music, live music from Koo Koo Kanga Roo, Okee Dokee Brothers, Bazillions and Clementown; Current DJs in a Kids' Disco, Story Time with Current DJs, puppetry from Open Eye Figure Theater, a museum gallery hunt and more.
A new activity this year is the Rock the Cradle Book Club. This installment would feature Chris Monroe -- award-winning writer and illustrator of "Monkey With A Tool Belt" and the comic strip "Violet Days" (which appears regularly in City Pages). Families are encouraged to read her books in advance and talk about them with Chris after she reads them in the Pillsbury Auditorium in the MIA.
