MPR News Receives a Murrow Award

(St. Paul, Minn.) - April 25, 2011 -Minnesota Public Radio News' report, "Living with Higher Unemployment" has won a regional Murrow Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association in the hard news category for large market radio.

The RTDNA has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow's pursuit of excellence in journalism embodies the spirit of the awards that carry his name. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession.

"Living with Higher Unemployment" by reporter Annie Baxter and editor Bill Catlin focuses on the day-to-day struggles many Minnesotans have been facing due to increasing unemployment rates.

"It's been an unfortunate reality here, and most everywhere," said Chris Worthington, managing director, MPR News. "MPR News is committed to reporting the stories that Minnesotans are experiencing statewide."

The regional awards, announced on April 21, qualify the winners for the national competition. National winners will be honored at a dinner in New York in October
