Minnesota Public Radio Announces Fall Season Line-up at the Fitzgerald Theater

(St. Paul, Minn.) August 29, 2011--Minnesota Public Radio's Fitzgerald® Theater announces an exciting fall line-up featuring a range of talented and unique artists, authors and radio hosts. Each show will deliver entertainment that is both amusing and intellectually stimulating.
An Evening with Baxter Black
Thursday, October 13 at 7 p.m.
Cowboy poet and commentator on public radio's Morning Edition will dive into his new self-help book, Lessons from a Desperado Poet: How to Find Your Way When You Don't Have a Map, How to Win The Game When You Don't Know The Rules, And When Someone Says It Can't Be Done, What They Really Mean is That They Can't Do It. Baxter will be joined on stage by Joe Savage and Starlight Trio, Becky Thompson and Pop Wagner. Following the show, Baxter will take questions from the audience. Tickets: $30. $28 for MPR members.
89.3 The Current Presents Dessa
Friday, October 28 at 8 p.m.
Dessa, the multi-talented rapper, solo artist and essayist will perform in celebration of her latest album, Castor, The Twin. A collection of talented friends and musicians will lend their talents to the show including Aby Wolf, Sean McPherson, Dustin Kiel and others. Tickets: $25. $23 for MPR members.
The Moth Radio Hour
Friday, November 11 at 7 p.m.
The Moth is an acclaimed not-for-profit organization dedicated to the craft of storytelling. Each show features simple, old-fashioned storytelling on thoroughly modern themes from wildly divergent raconteurs who develop and shape their stories with The Moth's directors. The Moth has presented more than 3,000 stories, told live and without notes, to standing-room-only crowds worldwide and The Peabody Award-winning Moth Radio Hour airs on more than 200 public radio stations across the country. Join us for the first Moth at the Fitzgerald Theater, featuring favorite stories from the radio hour along with local voices. Tickets: $25. $23 for MPR members.
Wits Special Edition with guest, John Hodgman
Friday, November 18 at 8 p.m.
Don't miss this special edition of Wits where host, John Moe will welcome actor, comedian and author John Hodgman. Hodgman contributes to The Daily Show and This American Life and has appeared in the movie Arthur and TV shows Battlestar Galactica and Bored to Death. Hodgman is coming out with a new book, That is All. He will be joined on stage by his friend and songwriter John Darnielle from The Mountain Goats, whom Paste magazine has included in its "100 Best Living Songwriters" list. Kate DiCamillo with Chris Van Allsburg
Sunday, November 20 at 2 p.m.
Children's book author, Kate DiCamillo will interview Caldecott-winning illustrator, Chris Van Allsburg about his new book, The Chronicles of Harris Burdick. The book features 14 remarkable stories by 14 best-selling writers including Stephen King, Lemony Snicket and DiCamillo herself. This is an exclusive show perfect for the entire family. Tickets: $15. $13 for MPR members and $9 for kids.
Peter Ostroushko's Harvesting the Music
Friday, November 25 at 8 p.m.
Peter Ostroushko, violinist, mandolinist and A Prairie Home Companion®musician will present his unique brand of music with a full ensemble. The show will usher in the holiday season with dance-inducing tunes. Tickets: $34. $32 for MPR members
The New Standards Holiday Show
Friday and Saturday, December 2-3 at 8 p.m.
The holiday tradition continues with not-so-traditional holiday music of The New Standards. John Munson, Chan Poling and Steve Roehm of the jazz trio will light up the stage with special guests as they deliver their own brand of holiday cheer. Tickets: $32. $28 for MPR members.
"Of Mirth and Mischief" with Kevin Kling and Steve Kramer
Friday and Saturday, December 16-17 at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 18 at 2 p.m.
This one-of-a-kind holiday show for kids of all ages was written by Kevin Kling and directed by Peter Rothstein takes theatergoers down a path of irony through tales of inner-city elves, broken fairies and holiday collisions. The show's musical director, Steve Kramer has partnered with Haley Bonar and James Diers of Halloween, Alaska to compose and perform original music for the show. Tickets: December 16-17, $29. $27 for MPR members and $20 for kids. For December 18, all tickets are $20.
