MPR News' Bright Ideas Presents Criminologist and Author David Kennedy

WHAT: MPR News' Bright Ideas welcomes legendary criminologist David Kennedy on October 25, when he will chat with MPR's Stephen Smith about ending inner city violence. Kennedy's latest book is "Don't Shoot: One Man, a Street Fellowship, and the End of Violence in Inner-City America."

Kennedy is best known for the Operation Ceasefire intervention program and the mid-90s "Boston Miracle" -- a then-new approach to gang violence, which cut youth homicide by two thirds. He's currently the director of the Center for Crime Prevention and Control at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. Previously, he was a senior researcher and adjunct lecturer at the Program in Criminal Justice Policy and Management at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. He also worked as a consultant with the Minneapolis police department in the 90s.
