(St. Paul, Minn.) - October 13, 2011 - In celebration of the release of her new album, Castor, The Twin, 89.3 The Current presents Doomtree's Dessa in concert at the Fitzgerald Theater. The sold out show will feature rap ballads, torch songs and Dessa's own brand of charismatic monologue.
"Dessa is one of those unique artists that can truly do it all," said Tony Bol, director, performance programs at The Fitzgerald Theater. "She is an authentic Minnesota treasure and we are honored to celebrate this latest venture with her."
"This is the largest and most ambitious production I've ever been a part of," says Dessa. "More than 20 musicians lent their talents to this project, including Doomtree producers, chamber musicians, and pop players. Genre districtions have always seemed like utilitarian constructs to me--useful for talking about music, but not for making it. The Fitzgerald show affords me a rare opportunity: the chance to stage a performance that's made cohesive by the shared themes that drive the music, not by the genre that determines where retailers ought shelve it. And I'm determined to make the most of the opportunity."
In addition to special musical guests, Cecil Otter and Channy Casselle, Dessa will be backed by a full ensemble of talented musicians, including:
And The Professors String Ensemble, composed of MN Opera players
Pianist Kahlil Queen
Singer Aby Wolf
Singer Chastity Brown
Guitarist and pianist Dustin Kiel
Bassist Sean McPherson, Heiruspecs
Percussionist Joey Van Phillips, Mystery Palace
Percussionist Dave Hagedorn
Violist Erica Burton
