Update about Bemidji and North Central's MPR service

Nov 30, 2011

Minnesota Public Radio stations serving Bemidji and the North Central part of Minnesota suffered a major failure on Thanksgiving Day. As a result, MPR News and Classical MPR stations in that region are operating at a very low power preventing the signal from being properly transmitted to radios. The Minnesota Public Radio engineering team and an independent tower crew are coordinating repairs to the system. "This may be a several week project as the repair work needs to be done at 1,000 feet above ground with the subsequent weather issues that occur at that height," said MPR Regional Network Director Kristi Booth. "Once the antenna system problem is removed from the tower, we will need to order parts and install the repaired equipment on the tower. We want our MPR listeners to know that we are doing everything we can and we thank them for their patience."

Service impacted:
Bemidji: 91.3 News and 88.5 Classical
Cass Lake: 91.3 News and 88.5 Classical
Park Rapids: 91.3 News and 88.5 Classical
Walker: 91.3 News and 88.5 Classical
Grand Rapids: 91.3 and 107.3 News; and 88.5 and 104.1 Classical

During the repairs to the signal, area listeners are encouraged to stream their favorite shows and breaking news online at mpr.org. Any questions may be sent attention Kristi Booth at kbooth@mpr.org or 1-218-751-8864.
