Nov 29, 2011
(St. Paul, Minn.)--November 30, 2011--89.3 The Current announced today that it has named David Safar Music Director and Lindsay Kimball Assistant Program Director. Both will assume their new duties on December 12, 2011.
As the new music director, Safar will lead 89.3 The Current's music department and help shape the station's musical aesthetic. Safar joined 89.3 The Current in 2006 and currently serves as the station's co-music director and overnight on-air host. He also hosts "New Hot," a weekly new music spot; and produces the Sunday night program, "The Local Show." While at The Current, he has launched features such as the Local Music Exchange, the Song of the Day podcast and the CD compilation, "Local Current Volume 1." Prior to joining The Current, Safar was music director and program director for Radio K (the University of Minnesota's college radio station).
"I'm looking forward to taking on new challenges with The Current," Safar said. "As a proud member of the Twin Cities music scene, I can't wait to dream up new ways to get music from our backyard heard across the country."
Kimball, as the new assistant program director, will work with the station's program director Jim McGuinn to lead the day-to-day operations of the station. She is currently an on-air host overnights and the station's program coordinator. She also produces The Current in-studios and remote broadcasts, including shows from Bonnaroo, SXSW and Rock the Garden; and launched initiatives such as Local Current webstream and the live event series The Current Road Trip. Before joining The Current, she was host and music director for KWLC in Luther College, IA.
"I've been at The Current since the station launched, starting as an intern," Kimball said. "I love the station and am so glad I've been able to share my skills and keep building on the Current's success."
"It's always special when you have people in house that you can see grow into new roles," said Jim McGuinn, program director, 89.3 The Current. "Both David and Lindsay have been a major part of the team that puts The Current together for years. I'm really excited to be able to promote two great talents from within the organization."
89.3 The Current is also accepting applications for two new positions: music assistant and local music assistant. Applicants should go to americanpublicmedia.iapplicants.com to learn more.
