MPR News and KARE 11 to Share News Coverage from Iowa Caucuses

(St. Paul, Minn.)--December 28, 2011-- MPR News and KARE 11, two of the largest radio and TV broadcasters in the Midwest, said today that they will share news coverage leading up to the Iowa caucuses Jan. 3, 2012.

"It's a big, sprawling story. The more reporters, the better. KARE 11 is an ideal partner for us -- they're smart, fast to the news and deliver unmatched photography," said Tim Roesler, MPR's general manager and senior vice president. "Both of our audiences will benefit."

Both news organizations plan extensive coverage from Iowa, the critical first step in the 2012 Presidential campaign. The two news organizations are sending reporters, producers, photographers and news anchors to provide a range of coverage on their respective stations, web sites and social media networks.

KARE 11's Mike Pomeranz will anchor from Des Moines along with political reporter John Croman. MPR's Morning Edition host Cathy Wurzer and Kerri Miller, the host of Midmorning, will lead MPR News' coverage.

MPR News and KARE 11 will exchange reporting as the story warrants beginning Saturday Dec. 31, 2011, through the morning after the caucuses Jan. 4, 2012. The sharing will showcase a variety of elements, including live reports, produced stories, video and other material across multiple platforms.

The Iowa contest also has a strong Minnesota angle. Rep. Michele Bachmann, the Republican who represents the state's 6th Congressional District, is hoping for a strong finish to improve her chances for the GOP presidential nomination.
