Minnesota Public Radio Announces Spring Season at the Fitzgerald Theater

(St. Paul, Minn.) Feb. 1, 2012--Minnesota Public Radio's Fitzgerald® Theater announces a culture-packed spring season featuring acclaimed personalities, storytellers and musicians.
Minnesota Varsity Event on 4/29
Sunday, April 29 at 4 p.m.
Ambitious teens from all over Minnesota have submitted their auditions to Minnesota Varsity, the statewide classical music showcase for high school students presented by Classical Minnesota Public Radio. The 2012 Minnesota Varsity Showcase will include performances by finalists and special guests, Twin Cities-based singers and sisters, Christina Baldwin and Jennifer Baldwin Peden. Muse for Music: Jeremy Messersmith with Special Guests
Saturday, May 18 at 8 p.m.
Jeremy Messersmith will welcome musical guests and host Dave Mondy as they explore the hidden creative origins and stories surrounding some of music's most notable songs by artists including Bruce Springsteen, Sigur Ros and Radiohead, as well as original material by Messersmith. Muse for Music will be an evening of orchestrated live music and an insightful glimpse into an eclectic mix of hit songs, cult classics and lost obscurities. The live show will be enhanced with Mondy conducting interviews with well-known performers such as vocalist Chastity Brown. Tickets: $25. $23 for MPR members.
Works for Words: Chris Koza with Special Guests
Friday, June 8 at 8 p.m.
Chris Koza and special guests will explore the meanings of the lyrics and importance of words in pop, rock and folk songs. Koza will curate, selecting words and songs heard through his creative perspective. In an era of fast and voracious media consumption, Koza and guests will invite listeners to slow down and listen to the vivid lyrical content and inspired musical arrangements. Tickets: $25. $23 for MPR members.
Tying the Knot: Songs for Our Fathers
Saturday, June 16 at 8 p.m.
Just in time for Father's Day, we will celebrate "fatherhood" with a combination of songs, images, storytelling and dance. The evening will honor the unbreakable bonds that connect the richness of African American culture to the vital and universal role of fathers in our communities. The program, hosted T.Mychael Rambo, will feature a number of collaborations with area arts, literature and community-based organizations. Performers will include Marion McClinton, Rohan Preston, Bruce Henry, Julius Ollins, Aimee Bryant, Thomasina Petrus and Tonia Hughes-Kendrick. Tickets: $25. $23 for MPR members.
