Mar 22, 2012

(St. Paul, Minn.) - March 22, 2012 - 89.3 The Current in the Twin Cities and KCSN 88.5 FM at California State University will swap songs from hometown artists in "The Local Music Exchange" -- The Current's ongoing project to share emerging music from different scenes around the country.

KCSN's Mark Sovel (aka Mr. Shovel) and 89.3 The Current's Mark Wheat will unveil new music and commentary - on air and online - throughout the week of April 2-6, 2012.

"We're privileged to be given the opportunity to be an advocate for local music from Los Angeles and there is certainly an abundance of talent emerging from L.A.," said KCSN's Mark Shovel. "It is a fantastic initiative that The Current is undertaking to share local music between cities. We know that Minneapolis has a strong and vital music scene, which is evident in the great music that continues to be created and the very supportive base of music fans in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Cheers to the Twin Cities from KCSN and the music lovers of L.A."

"Los Angeles is going to love listening to these bands from Minneapolis," said 89.3 The Current's Mark Wheat. "Polica were a big hit during SXSW this year, for instance, and the other groups are equally poised for big things this year. I'm looking forward to hearing the bands Mr. Shovel is going to share from California."

89.3 The Current began The Local Music Exchange as a way to connect radio listeners with music from different communities. The Local Music Exchange furthers The Current's ideal--to support independent music and strengthen public radio by developing diverse and innovative content. 89.3 The Current has collaborated on past Local Music Exchanges with WXPN, Philadelphia, PA; KUT, Austin, TX; KEXP, Seattle, WA; and WFUV, NY.
