Classical MPR Presents Artist-in-Residence Chad Hoopes in Concert May 24 at Hamline University's Sundin Music Hall

WHAT: Classical MPR is proud to present violinist Chad Hoopes in concert, along with accompanist Dina Vainshtein, on Thursday, May 24 at the Sundin Music Hall. Chad Hoopes is Classical MPR's 2011-2012 Artist-In-Residence and this will be the final concert of his residency. Hoopes will perform an all-French program, including Cesar Franck's Violin Sonata in A major.
As part of the Classical MPR Artist-in-Residency, Hoopes recently completed a successful two-week tour of greater Minnesota schools, including a visit to the Bug-O-Nay-Ge-Shig School on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation near Cass Lake, Minn. At each school, he talked about the importance of music and the arts and was joined by Classical MPR host Steve Staruch. Hoopes began his residency with a sold-out recital at MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis in August 2011.
About Chad Hoopes
American violinist Chad Hoopes has been appearing with numerous ensembles throughout the world since he won the first prize at the Young Artists Division of the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition. His exceptional talent and magnificent tone are acclaimed by critics worldwide. He is a violinist possessing vibrant virtuosity "with an inspiring blend of emotional expression and technical ease" (Press Democrat), and his mastery is described as "way beyond his years" (Press Democrat).
Hoopes was born in Naples, Florida, in 1994 and at the age of four began his violin studies in Minneapolis. He later studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music under David Cerone and Joel Smirnoff and has additionally studied at Ottawa's NAC Young Artists Program. Chad is living in Cleveland where he is in his final year of high school.
His recent debuts include such orchestras as the Vancouver Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Utah Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Houston Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Brussels Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera, Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, and Trondheim Symphony. He has recently collaborated with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, Canada. Chad is a frequent guest artist at the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, Switzerland since his debut in August 2009. He has performed Vivaldi's Four Seasons at the Tuscan Sun Festival in Cortona, Italy. Last summer he was invited to the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and Festival del Sole in Napa Valley.
About Classical MPR's Artist-In-Residence Program Now in its third year, Classical MPR's Artists-In-Residence is a year-long commitment to bring outstanding artists to Minnesota audiences. The acclaimed Parker Quartet was the first Classical MPR's Artist-In-Residence in 2009-2010, and the vocal ensemble Cantus was Artist-in-Residence in 2010-2011.
