WHAT: All Things Considered from MPR News will feature a special live broadcast on May 22 to mark the one-year anniversary of the tornado that hit North Minneapolis.
The May 22, 2011 tornado killed one, led to the death of another during cleanup, and damaged 3700 structures, causing millions of dollars in damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure. It also displaced countless neighborhood residents--and its effects extended beyond damage, dollars, and lives. It also rallied volunteer and monetary support from around the region.
One year later, All Things Considered with host Tom Crann will revisit the neighborhood to see how the recovery was managed, what gaps remain, and look ahead to what's next for the North Side. The program will also mark the recovery progress, discuss lessons learned and consider strategies for the future.
WHEN: Tuesday, May 22, 3-6:30 p.m.
WHERE: University of Minnesota's Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center, 2001 Plymouth Ave. N., Minneapolis
ADMISSION: The event is free and open to the public.
