MPR News Hosts Series of Events Leading Up to Election Day

MPR News will host a series of events leading up to Election Day, including The Final Senate Debate, as well as two debates on the constitutional amendment proposals facing Minnesotans.

Also, a live election special with veteran political reporter and host Gary Eichten will air on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m., prior to the final Senate debate. Eichten and his guests will discuss the Minnesota Senate race, the voter ID and marriage amendments, and the Presidential race. Listeners will have a chance to call in and join the conversation.

All four events will take place live at The Fitzgerald Theater in downtown Saint Paul and will be broadcast live statewide on Minnesota Public Radio News.

Guests--Pro -Amendment: GOP State Representative and former Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer; Anti -Amendment: DFL State Representative and Assistant Minority Leader Steve Simon. Election expert Doug Chapin, who is neutral on the amendment, will add context and information to the discussion. He is currently Director of the University of Minnesota Humphrey School's program for Excellence in Election Administration and was formerly director of Election Initiatives at the PEW Center for the States.

Marriage Amendment Debate
Thursday, Nov. 1, 7 p.m.

Guests-- Pro amendment: Reverend Jerry McAfee of New Salem Missionary Baptist and Brian Brown, President of the National Organization for Marriage; Anti-Amendment: Bishop Gene Robinson, the nation's first openly gay Episcopal bishop and Sarah C. Walker COO of 180 Degrees and Minnesotans United for All Families board member.

Live Election Special with Gary Eichten
Sunday, Nov. 4, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Eichten and his guests will look at the Minnesota Senate race, the voter ID and marriage amendments, and the race for President. Listeners will also have a chance to join the conversation.
