89.3 The Current Unveils New Shows On Air and Online

Mar 5, 2013

89.3 The Current today announced changes to its on air schedule beginning this month.

H2 on The Current, a new hip hop show hosted by Redefinition Radio host and Twin Cities hip hop fixture Kevin Beacham and Rhymesayers Entertainment President and CEO Siddiq, will air Wednesday nights at 10 p.m., beginning March 27. The show replaces Passport Approved. Listeners can still get their DJ Sat Bisla world music fix with a Passport Approved track of the day, airing weekdays at 11 p.m.

Doomtree hip hop collective co-founder, Stefon Alexander, aka P.O.S, hosts a new show on Saturday nights at 11 p.m., beginning March 30. Named P.O.S. is Ruining The Current-a tongue-in-cheek reference to his song "P.O.S. is Ruining My Life"--the show will showcase his many musical influences. The show replaces Redefinition Radio.

The hit variety show Wits will air on Sundays at 9 p.m., beginning Sunday, March 10. Wits brings world-class comedians, actors and musicians to the stage of the Fitzgerald Theater. Hosted by John Moe, the show mixes improv, sketch comedy, conversation, music and genuine beauty in a program praised as "one of the rare public radio comedy shows that's actually funny." Wits will take the time slot of The Current Presents, which will still air periodically on Sundays at 10pm, pre-empting In The Studio. Check The Current's website weekly for an updated schedule.

The Local Current will add two new shows beginning the week of March 24. H2 Local on the Local Current stream will air Tuesdays at noon, Wednesdays at 11 p.m. and Saturdays at 7 p.m. Hosted by Kevin Beacham and Siddiq, the show pays tribute to Twin Cities underground hip hop. In a nod to northern Minnesota's burgeoning music scene, the Duluth Local Show will air on Wednesdays at noon, Thursdays at 11 p.m. and Saturdays at 6 p.m. Walt Dizzo, director of the Homegrown Music Festival, will host the show, which will focus on the music of Duluth, the North Shore and the Iron Range. Both shows are made possible in part by the Legacy Amendment for Arts and Cultural Heritage.

"H2 on the Current will be the pre-eminent hip hop show in the region, hosted by Siddiq and Kevin Beacham from Rhymesayers Entertainment and Walt Dizzo contributing to the Duluth Local Show enables us to provide more exposure for the thriving northern Minnesota music scene," said Jim McGuinn, program director of 89.3 The Current. "And P.O.S. is a rabid music fan-- I can't wait to hear what music he brings in to share with the Current's audiences on Saturday nights."
