Jun 24, 2013
Bemidji's Classical Minnesota Public Radio station, KCRB 88.5, will air a special broadcast of recent concert performances by Bemidji Symphony Orchestra, Bemidji State University Symphony Orchestra, Concert Choir and Bemidji Chorale on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.
Hosted by Classical MPR's Michael Barone, the program features several recent performances that were recorded for broadcast by MPR this spring at Bemidji High School auditorium. The program features Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem, Op. 45 , the "German" Requiem, performed by Bemidji State University Symphony Orchestra, Concert Choir and Bemidji Chorale, conducted by Beverly Everett with guest soloists Edward Huls, bass and Jennifer Swanson, soprano.
The broadcast also includes two recent works that celebrate our region's proud Native American culture. The Bemidji Symphony Orchestra performs Linda Tutas Haugen's The Fable of Old Turtle, featuring local Native American flutist Keith Bear and narrated by Haugen as well as Russell Peterson's Between Two Cultures.
"There are wonderful musicians in the Bemidji area, and they put heart and soul into these performances," said Brian Newhouse, Managing Director of Classical MPR. "We were pleased to be there with our recording equipment, and bring this music 'back' to the community in which it was born."
