Aug 1, 2013

Minnesota Public Radio today announced its 2013 State Fair booth activities and MPR Day lineup. In keeping with tradition, MPR will host live on-stage broadcasts and performances by local bands and classical music ensembles, including P.O.S., Actual Wolf, Lucy Michelle, Chastity Brown, Brooklyn Rider, and the Minnesota Opera. MPR Day is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 30 in Carousel Park, featuring a live broadcast with Sen. Al Franken and a live performance by choral music ensemble VocalEssence.

MPR State Fair programming highlights

Twin Cities Public Television's (tpt) Almanac at the Fair will be broadcast live on Friday, Aug. 23 at noon from the MPR booth. The show will also air that same night at 7 p.m. on tpt 2.

On Saturday, Aug. 24 at noon, The Daily Circuit's Tom Weber visits the MPR Booth for the MPR Health Initiative, an hour of interaction and conversation on the weird, extravagant, and fraudulent medical claims we encounter every day and how to make smarter, evidence-based medical choices. This event is a co-presentation with the Science Museum of Minnesota.

Friday, Aug. 30 is MPR Day at the Fair. Grab a corn dog and a cold beverage and enjoy a variety of events at the Carousel Park Stage, featuring a live broadcast with Sen. Al Franken and a live performance by choral music ensemble VocalEssence. That evening, MPR Day wraps up as 89.3 The Current Presents "MN Music on a Stick"--a Grandstand-worthy concert of favorite Current artists-- featuring Trampled by Turtles, The Suburbs, Mason Jennings, P.O.S. and The Chalice. Stop by the MPR stage in Carousel Park or tune in starting at 3p.m. for a pre-show broadcast. MN Music on a Stick tickets are $35 and MPR members receive a $5 discount. Tickets are available online at etix.com or by calling (800) 514-3849. MPR members may call MPR Member Listener Services at (800) 228-7123 to receive the discount promotion code.

On Saturday, Aug. 31, 89.3 The Current presents a live broadcast interview from the MPR booth with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, hosted by Steve Seel and Jill Riley of The Morning Show.

On Saturday, Aug. 31 MPR News hosts a live interview with reporters Dave Peters and Jennifer Vogel on MPR's Ground Level project, an exploration of community issues around the state. They will also be discussing their new e-book, Fighting for an American Countryside.
