"Minnesota Marriage Debate," A Collaboration Between MPR News and KARE 11 News, On-Air and Online October 17-19

Oct 17, 2012

This week, MPR News and KARE 11 News, two of the largest broadcasters in the Upper Midwest, join forces for an in-depth series about Minnesota's proposed constitutional marriage amendment. The series will be broadcast statewide on MPR News and KARE 11 as well as online today through Friday.

In preparing for the series, MPR News' Sasha Aslanian and KARE 11 News' Karla Hult travelled through greater Minnesota last month, visiting Red Wing, Granite Falls, St. Cloud, Moorhead and Grand Rapids, to hear from both sides of the debate.

"Both MPR News and KARE 11 are committed to informing our communities about issues that matter," said Tim Roesler, MPR's general manager and senior vice president. "As Election Day approaches and the marriage amendment conversation continues, voters need as much information as possible as they go to the polls to make their voices heard. We are proud to partner with KARE 11 for this series."

From Granite Falls, where a DFL lawmaker split from his party to vote to put the measure on the ballot, to Moorhead, where the debate is playing out on the Concordia college campus, the "Minnesota Marriage Debate" series illustrates how divisive the proposed amendment is in communities across the state.

Tune In: "Minnesota Marriage Debate" will air on Oct. 18 during KARE 11 News' newscasts starting on KARE 11 Sunrise at 4:30 a.m. as well as at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m., and Oct. 17 & 18 during MPR News' All Things Considered, 3-6:30 p.m., and Oct. 18 & 19 during Morning Edition, 4-9 a.m. on all MPR News stations, including KNOW 91.1 FM in the Twin Cities.

On Thursday, Oct. 18, MPR's Tom Weber will host a segment during the 9 a.m. hour of The Daily Circuit with Sasha Aslanian and Karla Hult. The Daily Circuit is heard daily on all MPR News stations, including KNOW 91.1 FM in the Twin Cities.
