89.3 The Current announced today that it will celebrate its seventh year in the radio biz with a two-day birthday bash January 27 and 28, 2012, at First Avenue in Minneapolis. The lineup features some of the best bands from Minnesota. The January 27 show lineup: Tapes 'N Tapes, Dead Man Winter, Low and Night Moves. The January 28 show lineup: Polica, Suicide Commandos, Sims, Haley Bonar. Both nights of the party will also feature music spun by The Current DJs. Ticket sale information is detailed below.

Gary Eichten, legendary Minnesota broadcaster and host of MPR News' Midday, is retiring after more than 45 years with MPR's newsroom. To raise a toast in his honor, MPR is inviting the public to "A Heckuva Farewell: Midday at Night" on Thursday, January 19 at The Fitzgerald Theater. The program will be recorded for broadcast the following day, Friday, January 20 at 11 a.m. on 91.1 FM News.
Update about Bemidji and North Central's MPR service

MPR stations serving Bemidji, Cass Lake, Park Rapids, Walker and Grand Rapids suffered a major failure in the antenna system on Thanksgiving Day. As a result, MPR News and Classical MPR service in that region have been impacted. We're working to correct the service.

Minnesota Public Radio and the City of Minneapolis announced today the launch of MPR's Sound Point™ tour of Minneapolis Public Art. The interactive audio tour allows visitors to access a series of stories about new works of public art in Minneapolis, and to leave their own stories in return. The event was held at the "Blossoms of Hope," a public art work created in collaboration with Catalyst Community Partners that also serves as a transit shelter, at the intersection of Penn and Broadway avenues North in Minneapolis.
